What will the photoshoot be like?
      If you've chosen Kathryn as your photographer you are looking for something different; images of you & your family that are artful, creative, and a beautiful reflection of the personalities you love that will remain classic images for many years to come. Every session is different and aimed at capturing who her subject is today, resulting in photos that look natural and unposed.

What should I wear?
      When your session is booked Kathryn will send you information about what to wear, how to prepare, and what to expect at your session.

How long will it take?
      Most photo sessions take place on weekends, in kathryn's studio. If a weekday or another location is something you would prefer, Kathryn is happy to consider alternatives.
      Kathryn always allows 2 hours for a session. There are times that it does not take that long, but two hours is allotted so you do not feel rushed or pressured.The length of time of a shoot varies depending on how many subjects will be photographed and their ages. A pregnancy or adult shoot takes about 45 minutes to and hour and a half depending on whether you'd like make-up done and if other family members will be involved. Photoshoots involving babies and children take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, allowing time for breaks and feeding. If your child is sick or very unhappy the day of the shoot please consider rescheduling so you can be sure of the best possible results.

Payment methods and Details
       Photos By Kathryn accepts only cash or cheque. Cheques need to be made payable to Kathryn Langsford. A deposit of $100 is required at the time of booking .When the deposit is received, your session date and time are confirmed. Photos are ordered at your proof viewing session and at that time, a deposit of 50% is required, with the balance to be paid when your order is picked up.

Where's the studio?
      The studio is located at 70 East 2nd Ave. Suite 301, in Vancouver ( 2nd Ave. at Quebec St. ) in a three story red brick building. There are 3 flights of stairs, so if you would rather use an elevator, kindly call ahead and have someone meet you in the alley to escort you up the service elevator. When at the studio and needed urgently Kathryn can be reached on her cell at 604-220-0583.

      For general or business inquiries Kathryn can be reached at 604-488-1254 or through e-mail from her CONTACT page. It is best to book at least a month in advance, or even earlier if you have a difficult schedule.

Pregnancy
     A growing number of women are choosing to record their pregnant bellies on film, and many in Vancouver have chosen Kathryn to do this for them. Pregnancy photography has become more and more of a niche for her , due to her artistic eye for photographing pregnancy. Having been pregnant herself, Kathryn well understands the magic of that time, and the closeness you want to capture and record, for you, your partner , and your child.
     No two pregnancy sessions are the same, just as no two bellies are the same. Kathryn bases her choice on how to photograph a woman after she meets her and has a chance to get a sense of who this woman is today, as well as how she carries the little person inside. Many pregnancy session also involve the woman's partner, and usually tend to be half of the woman on her own, and the other half with her partner, focusing on their closeness and happiness as they await the imminent arrival of their child.
     It is suggested you book a session in your 8 th or 9 th month, anywhere from about week 35 on. Of course, if you are feeling very big earlier, or are retaining a lot of fluid, you may want to consider coming earlier. As with all other sessions, it is a good idea to book in advance to ensure you get the time and date you are hoping for, as sessions tend to be booked at least a month ahead.
     Once you have booked you session suggestions for clothing and preparation will be mailed to you.

Adult
     There are times in the life of an adult that are freeing, liberating, and worth celebrating. Many have come to Kathryn to have this time in life recorded and turned into a lasting expression of self.
     Be it a weight loss, a feeling of pride of who one has become at this stage in life or a gift for a partner, an artful expression of who you are today is a wonderful way of celebrating.
     Kathryn can make suggestions regarding wardrobe, make up, and styling.

Newborn photography
Kathryn has literally photographed hundreds of newborns Whether it is following a pregnancy session, or for a client who has brought their older children to her in years before , or for a first time client, it is always a privilege to be so closely involved with a new life, and to create an image of who that new little person is on one of the very first days of life.
      It is recommended you consider newborn photography in the very first couple of weeks of your baby's life, ideally within the first few days, though of course many new parents are not feeling ready for this. Very young newborns trend to be still curled up in fetal position, and sleeping much of the time, with very little body fat and those charismatic newborn skin folds, umbilical stub, etc. It is magical to have a photo of this very fleeting time.It is a good idea to book this session before your baby is born,to ensure you get a slot in the window of time you are wanting.
      As a mother, Kathryn understands that the first few weeks can be stressful, exhausting and unpredictable and urges you to reschedule if you are not feeling up to a 2 hour photo session, or if your baby is very fussy, or has blemishes, conehead,etc that you would rather not be in the photos. These things usually settle down quickly and we can reschedule for a few weeks away.
      Kathryn knows that newborns are often sensitive to things that a photo session might present: light, open spaces, and loud noises being a few of them.
      The most important thing is the comfort of baby, and great care is taken to ensure this during the session. Extra time is scheduled to allow time for nursing, comforting, pacing up and down the hall if need be, so there is no feeling of being rushed or pressured to work within a time constraint.
      As with all of kathryn's sessions, nothing is scripted and every session is different for every family. The same is true for a newborn session. If a baby is in the mood to be held throughout the session we will work with that. If baby doesn't want to be naked and prefers to be wrapped in a blanket, that is what we will do.
     When your session if booked we will mail you more information on how to prepare for your photo session.
     The important thing is comfort and for this to be a celebration of life and a pleasant experience to remember.

Presentation Options

     How you choose to showcase your photographs is almost as important as choosing the image. It should ensure that the work is able to be viewed in a way that is consistent with and complimentary to your décor, ad of course suitable for the context of the image.
     Kathryn can help you to put it all together, and is also happy to come to your home to help find the best places for displaying her work.
     When Kathryn presents you with your proofs and goes through them with you she will recommend different presentation options best suited for each photo.

Matting
     Images are matted, signed and dated, and ready for framing, ideal if you have a frame of your own in mind for the piece. The matte is archival and acid free.

Framing
     Kathryn's framing is classic gallery style. images are matted and signed, and ,may be framed individually or grouped together in creative ways to tell a story. Photos By Kathryn has been working with the same framer for many years and has had nothing but good feedback on the work he has done on the thousands of pieces she has had hand crafted by him.

Canvas Transfer
     A unique, stunning presentation, recommended for pieces 16x24 and larger. Your image is printed by traditional process then transferred to a canvas, which is then stretched over a wood frame, ready for hanging as is, or the piece can be framed. Greeting Cards
     A very popular item, these cards are printed with your favourite images ( up to three) , your choice of font, text, and include envelopes. Great for announcements, invitations, holiday cards, or general family stationary. Available in three styles - 5x7" folding in matt, 4x6" folding in matt or iridescent, 3x5" tri-folding in matt or iridescent. Cards are $2.75 each in quantities of 30+

Photo album
      A custom, handmade album in a matching monogrammed box, featuring a selection of your favourite photos in a variety of sizes, creatively cropped ,arranged and laid out to tell the story of today.
